Uses of Sound in film

- Engages distinct sense which leads to "synchronisation for the senses"
- Direct our attention specifically within image (Ie. foreground/background)
- Clarify image events/contradict them or render them ambiguous
- Cues for expectation (ie sound of opening door leads to expect someone has entered a room)
- Cheat or redirect the viewers expectations
- Silence helps to create tension
